Re-Thinking Christmas

Well, Christmas is over. The new year has yet to come, but I can't imagine it'll be much more eventful than Christmas day. On Christmas day I got a bike, an album, and a dvd. That's as much as I would've wanted. Today, I got the other album I wanted, after having listening to the first one 12 times!
But still it doesn't feel like Christmas. Maybe it's because I'm still getting used to living here, and the daily struggles I have with God's Will in total contrast to mine, but somewhere between the fake tree (that I said "made Jesus angry") and the lack of commercialism, there's a sadness that whispers and wonders why the "Christmas Spirit" feels so underwhelming this year. But I think God is okay with the lack of advertisement and the fake tree, because we dedicated a particular day to the birth of our Lord, and the presents, which are supposed to be symbolism for giving out of love, become an idol. The desire to make it the best day of the year and the best Christmas yet, become an idol. The obsession to love evveryone we know a little bit more becomes an idol for many of us, too.
So all distractions aside, there is a time for quiet. A time to understand that in the midst of the chaos of finding vacancy, and traveling for miles and miles, and fleaing from a tyrant whose only cause is to strip them of not only their, but God's crown jewel, that's when our Saviour was born.
I didn't think about that enough this Christmas, but I can try to think about in times to come, when it looks like my only option is to conform to the world and give up, because everything about life sucks, I can remember exactly when our Lord was born.

Indeed my first post, you needn't read it though.

This is my first blog post. So, here it is. It's not quite ready, but just tell everyone you think might be interested, because it most definitely is the textual embodiment of my thoughts of ZA (Zuid Afrika, Dutch South Africa). Anyway, merry Christmas.
